In my previous blog, I examined the challenges of artificial intelligence in cybersecurity solutions. Brilliant marketing and low prices may take a provider far, but ultimately, the customer is interested in the product’s performance. Critical infrastructure operators must be ready by 2024 to counter advanced attack methods from state actors. The new kings of cybersecurity are now in demand, standing out significantly with superior technology and service levels.

MITRE Evaluation is the Best Metric

The annual MITRE Engenuity ATT&CK Evaluations: Enterprise results have been the most reliable metric for assessing the capabilities of products. This regularly updated framework helps understand adversary behavior. MITRE assessments test the ability of cybersecurity vendors to quickly detect and prevent tactics and techniques typical to threat actors. Evaluation is crucial in testing vendors since assessing cybersecurity vendors solely based on their own performance claims is nearly impossible.

State Actors Are Formidable Adversaries

MITRE reveals numerous challenges and exciting trends in the industry. First, attention is drawn to the “best” performers, who are in a league of their own. New startups such as Cynet™ and Cybereason™ easily outperform traditional players. Particularly, Cynet™ excels, achieving a perfect 100% score in every category with default configurations. The most significant question marks surround the Finnish With Secure™ and Rapid7™, both prominently featured at least locally. Marketing is not a guarantee of defense capability. Advanced attacks and state actors pose complex challenges.

Cynet: 100% Score in Every Category with Default Configuration

Another interesting observation is companies’ tendency to market their results by removing superior products from the competition. Cybereason™ seems to have succumbed to this deception by excluding Cynet™ from its marketing materials. This trick is done to elevate their own company to the top position. Unfortunately, the same applies to many traditional vendors. This reflects a competitive market and confirms MITRE’s framework as an unbiased testing method. With MITRE, vendors cannot buy victory.

Startups lead Innovation

Companies’ cybersecurity solutions often consist of multi-vendor solutions or technologies acquired through business acquisitions. It makes management challenging, integration expensive, and leads to overlapping license fees. Cynet™ is once again an excellent example from the startup world. It offers a comprehensive cybersecurity solution designed from the ground up as a unified enterprise solution. It is easy to manage and use, highly automated, and backed by the world’s most high-level 24/7 SOC when the situation demands it. The new kings of cybersecurity are now making a solid entrance into Europe.
