The growth of mobile devices is expected to continue to be fierce over the next four years, while the new communication technologies will stabilize in the market. According to the forecast, traffic volumes of mobile devices will converge by 20 percent of global IP traffic in 2022. It is a staggering 113 times higher than traffic volumes in 2012. However, the forecast has interesting details and should always be treated with caution.

By 2022, there will be over 12 billion mobile devices on the market. 8 billion of these devices is a consumer device, and 4 billion IoT products. This is the growth of 9 billion in 2017. However, we are far from the 2010 forecasts , when Cisco ( Dave Evans ) and Ericsson ex CEO (Hans Vestburg ) forecasts of the level of 50 billion a year by 2020. Still in 2015, Gartner predicted 6.4 Billion and IDC 9 Billion IoT devices excluding phones and tablets in 2020.

By 2022, mobile network speed will increase by 28.5 Mbps (8.7Mbps in 2017).

By 2022 mobile online video represents 79% volume (59% in 2017)

54% of mobile terminal traffic was transferred to fixed network, Internet and WiFi. (Mobile Offload ) in 2017. This is projected to continue to grow by 59% by 2020. Thus, the importance of WiFi continues to grow as a cost-effective solution and an important network technology for businesses.

By 2020, the number of WiFi HotSpot base stations will increase to 549 million (129 million in 2017) and the average speed will be more than double, or 54.2Mbps. According to the report, this is an average of 90% faster than the mobile network.

The increase in data volume and number of devices is supported by the new WiFi 6 (802.11ax) standard. The upgrade will significantly improve the capacity of Wi-Fi network, the device density and reduces the WiFi network disturbances.  As significant new feature, WiFi 6 also supports low power IoT devices and sensors .

Some new WiFi 6 access points support also the Bluetooth 5 and Zigbee IoT radio technologies. The importance of these will increase as technology develops. An interesting example is the WilioT- developed battery-free stamp -sized bluetooth sensor.  With the WiFi 6 base station and / or the smartphone, new business opportunities are almost limitless. This is predicted to be the basis for future IoT solutions. These are hardly included in the predictions of the above-mentioned parties, but they are sure to bite the high market share of IoT sensors.

WiFi6, IoT, Energy Efficiency and Security are the key areas of 2019 in the design of corporate WiFi networks.
